Our Organization

Christl Aggus is an Alberta-based Certified Health & Safety Consultant and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional with more than 20 years of experience. She founded Principle Safety Ltd in 2005. The company provides expert consultations on health, safety, and the environment to companies of all sizes.

Her deep experience in health and safety has led to outstanding results for many organizations. She has developed and received approval for Electrical Safety Awareness courses from Bell Canada and Lockout Tagout for Teck Resources; and designed, implemented, and managed health and safety management systems for provincially and federally regulated organizations, which resulted in significantly reduced Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board rates.

Christl is dedicated to promoting safety awareness through training and education. She has worked extensively as a volunteer with the CSSE, including for the North American Occupational Health and Safety Week, as well as with the University of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Committee, Minerva Canada, and others. She has also been invited to speak about occupational health and safety (OHS) topics by the CSSE and the Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association.

Paul Andre is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Workplace Safety North in North Bay, Ontario. Workplace Safety North is a not-for-profit association mandated by the Ontario government to provide approved health and safety training to the province’s mining and forestry products sectors. Paul’s other positions have included working with the Ontario Ministry of Labour’s Prevention Division as a Senior Advisor; 10 years as Manager of Field Services and CEO at the Pulp and Paper Health and Safety Association, where he received a National Quality Institute’s Canada Award for Excellence for Quality; and 10 years as a consultant/trainer at the Ontario Forestry Safe Workplace Association.

Paul graduated from Ryerson University’s (now Toronto Metropolitan University) Occupational Health and Safety Certificate Program in 1998. He has been a Canadian Registered Safety Professional since 1996. Paul is also the past Governor and Past Chair of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals.

Barry Bynoe began working at the Regional Municipality of Durham’s Works Department, Recycling Centre, in 1988, where he developed an interest in occupational health and safety. He retired in 2022 after many years as a corporate health and safety officer and Supervisor of Health, Safety & Wellness. In 2018, Barry started up a health and safety consultancy, Lighthouse Safety Solutions, which provides a full range of safety services.

In 2002, Barry completed the Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University). That same year, Barry wrote his Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation. In 2003, he earned his Certified Health and Safety Consultant designation from the CSSE.

Barry volunteered with the Ontario Municipal Health and Safety Representatives Association from 1998 to 2016, where he held the positions of Program Director, Vice Chair, and, eventually, the association’s longest-serving Chair. In 2016, Barry founded the Durham East chapter of the CSSE, where he served as Chair for three years. He stepped down from that role to become the Regional Vice President for CSSE Ontario & Quebec. Barry was also Chair of the 2021 Awards Task Force.

Dave Turner is the President of Turner Safety Systems, which offers a range of health and safety services to a variety of organizations. He is a professional mining engineer and has worked in the mining and construction sectors for most of his career, and as an occupational health and safety professional for more than 40 years. He also works as an adjunct professor in risk management at the University of Fredericton.

Dave has trained mine rescue personnel in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories. He has also designed rescue scenarios for mines, pulp mills, and municipalities. In British Columbia, Dave worked with the local Emergency Measures Organization, setting up emergency services for municipalities.

In 1996, Dave was one of the first Canadians to become a Certified Mine Safety Professional.

Dave has been a member of CSSE since 1983. He has also volunteered for various chapters over the years and has served on the Awards Committee since 2007, becoming its Chair in 2010. He also spent many years on the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals’ Board of Governors, and has volunteered with a number of other organizations.

Dimitra Bolton is a CSSE London Chapter member and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional with more than 20 years of professional experience. She began her career in 1998. Since late 2022, Dimitra has worked as a health, safety, and environmental technician at Royal Canin, which produces specialized foods for cats and dogs.

Dimitra is a graduate of Fanshawe College’s Occupational Health and Safety Program, where she also worked as a continuing education instructor from 2001 to 2013.

She has been an active volunteer with the CSSE for a number of years, and currently serves as Chair of the London Chapter. Under her leadership, the chapter has hosted a wide variety of guest speakers and held a number of workshops for its members. Dimitra also volunteers for other organizations, including Toastmasters International, Workplace Safety and Prevention Services, the Canadian Standards Association, and Threads of Life.

Christian Fournier began his health and safety career in 2006, when he took a job as a safety manager at Carquest Auto Parts in Rexdale, Ontario. He held a number of health and safety jobs in Southern Ontario before moving to New Brunswick in 2010. By 2015, Christian was working as a safety and training coordinator at Fornebu Lumber Company in Brunswick Mines, New Brunswick. From there, he went on to work as an occupational health and safety consultant at Mount Allison University; an environment, health, and safety operations specialist at Stericycle Canada in Moncton; a health and safety superintendent at Twin Rivers Paper Company in Plaster Rock; and a health and safety coordinator for the Province of New Brunswick. In early 2023, Christian also published a children’s book, Safety Dog and the Adventures of Emma and Ethan: Safety Heroes in the Kitchen.

Christian earned a Safety, Health and Environmental Processes certificate from the University of New Brunswick in 2009. Among a number of other designations, he also holds Canadian Registered Safety Professional certification and is a Certified Health & Safety Consultant. As well, Christian has published health and safety articles in a wide variety of magazines and websites in Canada, the United States, and abroad.

Christian was the recipient of the CSSE’s Safety Professional of the Year Award in 2018 and the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2021.

Bruce Jackson began his career in occupational health and safety (OHS) almost 30 years ago while working at one of Weyerhauser’s wood products operations in Vancouver. He joined WorkSafeBC in 1997, where he held a variety of positions over his 20-year career. This included working as an industry specialist, occupational safety officer, prevention trainer, a manager in the education & development services department, and then senior manager of prevention quality. In November 2017, Bruce opened a consultancy service that provides auditing, safety management systems development, incident investigation, and safety training related services to industry.

Bruce earned his Canadian Registered Safety Professional certification in 2001 and chartered membership in Institute of Occupational Health and Safety in 2015. He’s a graduate of the BC Institute of Technology in both OHS and operations management, and holds two qualifications in adult education from Vancouver Community College, and a graduate degree in human factors and safety management systems from the University of South Australia.

Bruce joined the CSSE in 1999. Since then, he has been active in several roles in the organization, serving as Regional Vice President for the BC and Yukon Region, a Director of the BC Lower Mainland Chapter, a presenter at various CSSE professional development conferences, and a contributor to several CSSE publications. He was also the recipient of the CSSE’s National Volunteer of the Year Award in 2018.

Raeleigne Van Patten has more than 20 years of experience in the development, implementation, and maintenance of health, safety, environmental, behavior-based safety, operations, quality, and wellness programs. Raeleigne’s focus has been on influencing executive leadership, workers, contractors, and the safety community in Canada. She specializes in organizational systems improvements, change management, optimization, and implementing strategies with best practices to advance organizational culture and foster an environment of continuous improvement that aligns with organizational deliverables and strategic plans.

Raeleigne is a Canadian Registered Safety Professional and holds a number of certifications and designations, including a National Construction Safety Officer Certificate and a certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. As well, she is a Change Management Professional.

Raeleigne has been a member of and active volunteer with the CSSE since 2004. She was Chair of the Edmonton Chapter from 2009 to 2016 and Regional Vice President of the Alberta, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut region from 2017 to 2019. Raeleigne also served on the Alberta North Screening Committee of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals from 2008 to 2017.
