About Us
The original CSSE Chapter in British Columbia was the BC and Yukon Chapter, chartered September 1978 through the inspiration & dedication of key safety professionals and practitioners.
Over the years, Lower Mainland Chapter has grown from less than a dozen members to today’s 350+ safety professionals. Our membership includes regulators, industry professionals, managers, consultants, students, and instructors. Its members provide professional services to the many industries that operate in British Columbia.

Natalia Pashutina
Chapter Chair
After obtaining my Bachelor's degree as a Marine engineer and working in the construction sector for two years, I moved to Canada, where I started to explore my new professional journey. My love for health led to me working as a fitness and then wellness coordinator, where I helped people who were injured at work go through rehabilitation. Through this role, I became interested in health and safety, as I wanted to know what caused workplace injuries and why. I have completed the health and safety diploma program at SFU and joined CSSE during my student years.

Darshan Gill
Secretary
I've been involved with the CSSE since 2015 when I was a student at BCIT. Since then, I've been working in the trucking and transportation industry as a safety professional for the past. It is not often that I get to spend time with safety professionals from a variety of industries with varying levels of experience. The opportunity to network and meet other safety professionals has been a large part of the value the CSSE continues to provide for me.

Hollie Sones
Director of Membership
I became interested in Health and Safety after working as a flagger and general labourer in construction. I worked with a few health and safety reps who were angry, unhelpful and blamed workers for everything. I remember thinking that there must be a better way to use health and safety to work effectively for the intended beneficiaries. I have always believed in the importance of our industry and I wanted to represent it positively and create something meaningful instead of just checking boxes.

Marc DiMarco
Director of Communications
After having moved to Canada to attend the University of British Columbia in the early 2000’s from the US, and, after having spent time in the US Military, I quickly found my passion for health and safety. As a lifelong learner and process driven manager, I endeavored to understand my role in shaping the future of occupational health and safety programs in an effort to help workers go home to their loved ones at the end of a hard day’s work.

Achievement Awards
Giving Credit for Effort and Innovation
The BC/Yukon Region of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) recognizes achievement by both individuals and organizations in a variety of categories, including outstanding achievement, special projects, industry specific safety innovations, and young/new worker training/orientation programs, through the annual Achievement Recognition Awards program. Each year, after the nominations are received, an awards committee selects winners. Awards are presented at the CSSE/NAOSH Week Safety Forum & Awards Luncheon held in October.
