As safety professionals, we are always attending sessions to improve of technical knowledge.  The Toronto Chapter breakfast meetings are usually no different.  However, in attaining this technical knowledge, we sometimes overlook our 'soft' skills, such as communication.  In May, we celebrate the safety professional with its own day (May 8, 2019.  In honour of this, the Toronto Chapter is hosting a special 2 hour meeting focusing on communication skills.

Session Overview

In this engaging two-hour session, Kyle Couch will ensure participants have a new, highly effective, tool to help them in their day-to-day roles as safety professionals – effective communication skills. Through the use of the DISC Personality Styles framework, participants will learn how to use their own personality style, as well as that of their colleagues, to ensure messages are delivered in a highly tailored and effective way. While you may feel that you currently have a high rate of success in how you convey your messages, you may be shocked to learn how you can greatly improve your ability to communicate with purpose to those around you. The DISC concept is rooted in decades of research, and is used around the world in virtually every industry. Kyle Couch will lead the group through the various components of the DISC concept and ensure each participant understands the subtle differences between the four primary DISC styles.

Not only will each participant learn the theory behind the DISC concept, they will also receive a customized individual report outlining their own DISC style. With this report, participants can develop more rewarding relationships with others both at work, and in their social lives. Mr. Couch will also show how the DISC concept can be applied to the health and safety profession through a variety of real world scenarios. Participants will see how they can be so much more effective in their role using the common traits and needs of the people they interact with on a daily basis. From handling difficult conversations, through to inspiring others to work in a more mindful way, this session will help participants achieve their ultimate goal - preventing accidents and creating a safer work environment.
