Are you passionate about improving health and safety in the construction industry in B.C? Are you interested in partnering with industry stakeholders to develop programs that will make work safer and help those who are injured get back to their normal lives quickly and safely?

As the provincial health and safety manager for construction, you’ll lead a team to engage with stakeholders, support projects and initiatives that impact change, and have an innovative approach to health and safety program development and resources. Your work will prevent injuries and disease, strengthen safety culture, and improve outcomes for those who are injured at work.

Our Industry and Labour Services team at WorkSafeBC is committed to improving workplace health and safety through the strength of our strategic relationships. We leverage these relationships to help build the capacity of our stakeholders and encourage safety ownership and culture through occupational health and safety resource development, financial incentives, education, consultation, and collaboration.

What you'll do

As the provincial health and safety manager for the construction industry you will:

  • Provide leadership to identify and implement innovative occupational health and safety initiatives that mobilize and support industry stakeholders to improve workplace health and safety
  • Research, recommend, evaluate, and monitor industry-related projects and funding proposals
  • Provide occupational health and safety knowledge, expertise, and guidance to our staff and external stakeholders
  • Network and build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Work directly with industry associations, the public sector, and employer and labour representatives

  • Provide knowledge of the construction industry to support the implementation of occupational health and safety programs that will prevent worker injury and disease and strengthen disability management programs
  • Use creative thinking and be a supportive and motivational leader
  • Exhibit superior verbal and written communication skills to engage audiences and articulate ideas and direction to promote trust and commitment
  • Maintain positive, client-focused relationships with internal and external customers in order to facilitate the ongoing success of key initiatives
  • Take accountability and deliver expected outcomes in a high volume, and constantly changing environment

Your educational background and experience:

  • A university degree\
  • Experience developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations
  • Experience delivering innovative solutions through program design and resource development
  • A minimum of three years of recent management experience
  • Previous experience working with the construction industry is preferred
  • Experience and education in occupational health and safety principles and programs is a definite asset
  • Working knowledge of project management practices and applications

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
