Summary

The Director, Health, Safety & Risk Management establishes clear and consistent Health and Safety practices, risk mitigation and provides guidance for all Live Nation Canada operations. This role is accountable to ensure the health and safety of our patrons, staff, third party vendors, artists, and visitors across our portfolio of events, venues, and festivals. In this role, you are also responsible for establishing and leading best practices in partnership with third party venues in which Live Nation Canada operates. This role is responsible for establishing and ensuring best practice adoption and continuously improving our Health and Safety standards and performance. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage H&S policies, programs, processes, standards and plans, including operational protocols and programs related to the impact of Global, local and regional or national incidents such as COVID-19. 
  • Oversee the integration of Live Nation Global H&S policies programs, processes, standards, and tools into Owned and Operated Venues and Festivals
  • Provides advice on managing and reducing risk during the inception, planning and execution of events through the lens of regulatory requirements and crowd safety including the development of weather protocols and the Live Nation Public Safety, Security and Emergency Management Plan
  • Oversees incident investigations and reviews reports regarding injuries to workers and patrons
  • Engages with regulators and authorities to develop standardized requirements in connection with the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Remain current with new and changing H&S regulatory/legislative requirements across Canada and emerging issues/trends, while initiating action to ensure programs, policies and practices are compliant
  • Identifies legislative requirements and communicates them to relevant stakeholders
  • Develops relationships with venues and works to implement nationwide standard H&S practices in relation to worker safety during event set up and tear down
  • Provides recommendations for safety enhancement and risk mitigation and successfully rolls them out 
  • Manage and track legislated training following provincial OHS requirements
  • Oversee medical and security responsibilities for our venues and festivals
  • Develop and supervise the Joint Health and Safety Committees for our venues and offices

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education and/or equivalent experience
  • Advanced knowledge of requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and AODA
  • Working knowledge of the BC Employment Standards Act and AB Employment Standards Code
  • 5+ years in a health and safety leadership role
  • Strong ability to interpret legislation and assess issues
  • Excellent interpersonal / communication skills
  • Fluent in English, French an asset
  • Must be able to handle sensitive matters and exercise excellent judgment and confidentiality
  • COVID-19 vaccination will be required for this position subject to legally valid exemptions

Physical Requirements/Work Environment 

Sits for extended periods of time at a computer station or work desk; stands and walks throughout the day; occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; uses hands and fingers to operate computers and office equipment for up to 8 hours each day; lifts up to 10 pounds regularly; exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.
