Safety Manager

The Opportunity:

We are now accepting applications for a Safety Manager for our manufacturing plants (approximately a 50/50 split between our Abbotsford and Delta facilities). The successful candidate for this highly valued position is responsible for ensuring compliance to OH&S legislation, policies and procedures and most importantly ensuring that each employee gets home safely EVERYDAY!

The Company:

Abbotsford Concrete Products Ltd. is an innovative industry leader in the manufacture of paving stones, retaining wall, slabs and related segmental concrete systems. The Company’s two manufacturing facilities are committed to safely producing concrete products with the highest degree of quality, then market these products with exceptional customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development of a safety system for approximately 80 to 100 workers
  • Ensure compliance with all OHS legislation and WorkSafe BC regulations, standards and guidelines
  • Ensure Joint health & safety committees are functioning effectively
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees
  • Develop SWP based on Risk Assessments and train workers on them
  • Perform plant inspections, conduct investigations, report and follow up on injuries, accidents and near miss incidents in consultation with appropriate team members
  • Conduct regular plant safety meetings, inspections and audits. Identify and review health and safety concerns
  • Develop Emergency Response Plans (ERPs)
  • Monitor, procure and inspect PPE and safety supplies inventory
  • Advise management on training requirements
  • Be an ambassador for a safe work culture and environment leading by example
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Qualifications:

  • Diploma OH&S or greater
  • Minimum 5 years of safety related experience
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA Level 3 considered an asset)
  • Knowledge and experience of COR and WorkSafeBC’s Program and Committee Evaluation (PACE) Initiative to evaluate workplace OHS programs and joint committees for compliance
  • Extensive knowledge of OH&S legislation and WorkSafe BC regulations, guidelines and standards

Skill Requirements:

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Well organized with an ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills (verbally and written)
  • Ability to maintain clear and accurate documentation
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
